Letter Dated February 25, 2010

Dear Parents,

The Lancaster Fine Arts competition is next week.  This is the last communication we will send you prior to leaving for this competition.

Please remember that your students will be required to bring their suitcases on Wednesday morning when they report for school as usual.  We will then dismiss classes approximately at noon and load up the buses.

We should return to the school approximately 6 – 7 pm on Friday night.  Again, we will have the students call you when they are about 15 – 30 minutes away.

Enclosed is the list of categories your student will be competing in.

Should you have any questions or require additional information, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Sincerely,

Bro. Esposito

Letter Dated February 11, 2010

Dear Parents:

Greetings in Christ! It has recently come to my attention that we [our Junior Patriots] were given free tickets to a Clippers game. Unfortunately, before Pastor or I had the chance to approve it, it was promoted to our boys.

Pastor and I would like to make it clear that if we had the chance to approve or disapprove the activity, we would have not approved it. Our reasoning behind this, among others, is the music, the cheerleaders, and the general atmosphere of those in attendance. As a church and a school, we are doing our best to be careful what we approve of, especially if it is something that might dishonor our Lord. We do understand that it puts you and us in a difficult predicament; we have already promised the children.

Therefore, we are not going as a school, but we will give you the tickets. We definitely wanted you to know it is not something we would approve. We would definitely not want to bring your son where he will see things you would not want him to see.   Sorry for the inconvenience!

For HIM,

Brother Esposito

Dear Parents,

It has been a great year in school and our Basketball teams have had an exciting season thus far.  I wanted to remind you about some policies pertaining to our Basketball games as well as the gymnasium.  It is VERY important that we adhere to these policies:

  • We would like to remind you that any Elementary student who attends a Pacific Baptist School basketball game, is required to attend with their parents.  Parents and/or guardians may not simply drop off a child without attending the game themselves.  I’m sure you understand the reasons behind this policy.  Additionally, we simply do not have the manpower to properly supervise the children ourselves.
  • Because we rent the gym from either First Baptist Church or Petrolane Boy’s Club, we want to do our very best to uphold our Christian testimonies.  We can do this by making sure we leave the gym in at least the same, if not better, condition, than how it was when we arrived.  This way we won’t have to worry about losing our privileges while there.

Recently, we have had problems with some of our elementary students creating havoc due to a lack of supervision.  We appreciate your cooperation to these adhering to these procedures in advance.

Should you have any questions or need clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

John Esposito

Send to school:

  • Vague complaints of aches, pains or fatigue.
  • Sniffles, a runny nose and a mild cough without a fever

Keep home from school:

  • Any physical or emotional condition that would prevent student from participating comfortably in class.
  • A fever of 100° Fahrenheit or more (99.6° for K-4 and K5 students or medically fragile students or for a student whose temp is usually below 98°)
    • Coupled with a rash, earache, sore throat, sluggishness or nausea, fever may signal a highly contagious infection.
    • Fever also indicates that the body is working to fight illness.  Rest is indicated for a person with fever.  A person with fever may also be more susceptible to contracting other contagious illnesses, thus should avoid crowds and environments where there is more likely to be exposure to others’ germs.
    • During flu season, remember that frequent hand washing is the best prevention for the spread of illness.

Please keep student home until fever free for 24 hours.

Do not give aspirin to a child under 19, due to connection with Reye Syndrome.

  • A persistent, productive cough and wheezing coupled with a thick or constant nasal discharge.

Contact doctor if cough is persistent, lasts 5 days or more, causes lack of sleep, causes chest discomfort, causes difficulty breathing, is associated with fever.

  • An undiagnosed rash, especially when there is a fever, open sores, hives, irritability, behavior changes.

Notify doctor about undiagnosed rashes, especially:

    • If a rash appears in a student who takes medication (even med that has been taken previously).
    • If fever or lack of sleep is associated
    • If rash is on face and bothersome
    • If rash is not improving after 2-3 days
  • Eye Inflammation, Persistent Eye Drainage, or Possible Pinkeye (Conjunctivitis), in which there may be any or all of the following symptoms:
    • Redness in the white part of the eyes and inside lower eyelids
    • A white or yellow discharge, sometimes with matted eyelids after sleep
    • Eye pain or irritation
    • Sensitivity to light

Contact your doctor if you see or suspect pinkeye or conjunctivitis.

Wash hands if eyes are touched, since eye infections can be spread very easily.

  • Head Lice - Keep home until treated with head lice shampoo.  Be sure to remove all nits.  Notify School so that measures can be taken to control head lice (no names are given).  Contact School if any information about prevention, treatment, control, or assistance is needed.
  • Chicken Pox - Keep home until all blisters are scabbed over and dry as well as being fever free for at least 24 hours.  Notify school so that measures can be taken to control chicken pox and so that spread of the disease can be controlled.  Some students have compromised immune systems and it is important for their families to be aware of exposure (no names are given).

Notify your doctor if your child may have chicken pox

  • Diarrhea or Vomiting - Keep home until no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours.

Notify your doctor if diarrhea or vomiting is persistent, not improving after a day, or causes dehydration, significant weakness, fever, etc.

  • Ringworm (contagious fungus infection) – Keep home until treatment is started.  Ringworm on the scalp requires an oral medication.  Ringworm on the body can be treated with a cream applied directly to the affected area and covered with a Band-Aid.
  • Draining wounds, open sores, impetigo sores. Fever blisters, herpes lesions, rashes that seep liquid, or wounds that are moist. Body fluids must be contained to prevent spread of pathogens (germs that can cause illness).  Fever blisters/cold sores should be scabbed, dry, or crusted over before returning to school.  Please contact school if you need any assistance or have questions about this.

On another note we would like to remind you about a few items concerning School Cast. School Cast is a great system we have in place and has helped us in aiding our families with information fast.  As most of you know it has been a great help already, including recently when we had a tornado warning for the city of Long Beach, as well as a school cancellation because of street flooding.  So many of our families have already experienced this amazing tool, and are thankful that it is in place.  To help keep it effective, back in September Mrs. Hardesty gave all families that were already registered for school, a user name and password with instructions on how to use this system.  This way if there were any changes you wanted to make to your contact information, you could make them at your convenience.  Updating and keeping your contact information current is extremely helpful in the event of any kind of emergency.

Please let us know if you have made any changes to your contact information since school started.  If you are not sure if we have your current information, please give it to us anyway.  We would rather you give it to us twice than not at all.  Thank you for allowing us to serve and encourage your children here at PBS.  If you have any questions about our School Cast Family and Student Alert System, please contact Mrs. Hardesty at 562/426-5214 or via email at ilah.hardesty@pacificbaptistschool.com.  All other questions can be directed through the school office at 562/426-5214.

Serving Him,

Bro. Johnny Esposito

P.S.  For those of you who wish to opt out of our School Cast System, please understand that you will not get timely information re: school cancelations, etc.   You will still receive the information, but AFTER the families enrolled in the School Cast System are notified.

Dear Parent(s):

Can you believe Christmas Break is already here!  We have had a wonderful first half of the school year and are looking forward to the second half as well.

With the end of the calendar year approaching, that gives us only a few short weeks before we go to the Lancaster Fine Arts Competition.  This year, the competition will be held March 3rd thru 5th.  It is for all students 4th grade thru 12th grade.  School will be closed for all K4 thru 3rd grade students.

The cost for this competition is $90 per student.  The fee for Fine Arts or any Fine Arts related costs may NOT be billed.  As of this date, we have yet to receive the $30 deposit fee that was due by November 30th.    We need to receive this deposit PLUS another $30 payment no later than December 30th.  Yes, that means $60 by December 30th.  The 3rd and final payment of $30 will be due January 15th.  However, if we do not receive the $60 by the December 30th cut off date, we regret that your child(ren) will not be able to attend the competition.

Should you have any questions or require additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office at 562/426-5214.

Sincerely,

Bro. Johnny Esposito

Dear Parent(s):

Also, please note that the 2nd payment of $30 is due on December 30th and the final payment of $30 is due on January 15th.  The fee for Fine Arts or any Fine Arts related costs may NOT be billed.  These fee’s are also non-refundable and must be paid prior to the competition.  As a school, we need to secure hotel rooms and competition meals up front and depend on all our students to have their fee’s paid on time so that we can accomplish this.

Should you have any questions or require additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office at 562/426-5214.

Dear Parents,

Let me start by saying “Thank you” for entrusting your child(ren) in our care.  We do not take this lightly and are honored that your child(ren) are here at Pacific Baptist School.  Again, thank you.

Well, it is that time of the year again where we need to update your school financial agreements.  These agreements need to be signed by you, the parent/guardian, twice a year, or once each semester.  The agreement enclosed right now is for the 2nd semester which begins with your January 15th payment.  Please sign the agreement and return it to the school office no later than January 4, 2010.  IF WE DO NOT HAVE YOUR SIGNED AGREEMENT IN OUR OFFICE BY JANUARY 4TH, YOUR TUITION WILL BE CHANGED TO THE NON-MEMBERSHIP RATE AND WILL NOT BE REVERSED UNTIL THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

With that said, please take a moment to review each of the five (5) tuition rates and requirements for each one.  Please check the appropriate tuition rate and sign the agreement.

Please note: If you choose to change your current tuition rate, the change will not go into effect until the new semester which begins with you January 15th payment.

Should you have any questions or require additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office at 562-426-5214.

In His service,
